Here's a restaurant in Mt Pleasant, SC I will NOT recommend. The server spilled two large glasses of ice water on My five year old daughter totally by accident, then panicked, which in turn made my daughter cry from the embarrassment of everyone in the restaurant looking at her and no one but my family trying to help clean her up. My husband took her outside to calm down, and the manager came out to insincerely check on things, but ran right back inside while my husband was trying to talk to him. This was the last dinner of vacation with my in-laws and it was ruined, since she spent it soaking wet and upset. In the end, the restaurant didn't even offer to comp my daughter's meal, which wouldn't have been a big deal if they at least showed some concern or remorse about the situation. Aside for the poor customer service, there were hardly any veggies in the veggie tacos. Not a place we will ever visit again. Moreover, my in-laws are local to this place and while they go out to eat often, this place is no long on their list of spots.

I like the Rusty Rudder and especially enjoy their large and beautifully set up back patio. My only grievance with the place has been in the food prices on some of their entrées. I may have gone in with a false expectation as I was highly recommended a dish from a friend and found it less than it was hyped to be. On other visits I've had great food and enjoyed my time.

Food is not that good. The out side patio area is awesome but don't come here to watch the game. The only TV's you will find are at the tiki bar and they are all small.

This was a great find! Busy and a wait, but it was worth the wait. Had their brisket dinner that was so tender and paired this with a side of collard greens. Waitress was wonderful! We'll be back!

Cool atmosphere and outdoor seating. Went on Friday to sit outside and listen to live music. We had to wait an hour and a half to be sat, and by then, the music was done. My burger was good, but nothing special. I got the buffalo shrimp burger. My side of gouda and bacon mac and cheese mashed potatoes was good, but would have been much better if the potatoes were warm. Our waitress was nice, but overall service was slow.

Really enjoyed this place. I used to believe it was a hole-in-the-wall dive bar, but I was VERY wrong. Beautiful and comfortable inside and a very spacious outdoor area with bar as well. It seems like they have live music several times a week. The menu was way above sports bar food. My wife had brisket tacos and cole slaw and I had the turkey burger with fries. Hers was very good, mine was just OK - wish I tried something else. About ten or so beers on tap although our waitress knew nothing about the beer they served (she was under 21) or what was actually on tap. She was helpful and went back to the bartender with my questions though. Service was good. We'll be back!

Horrendous. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller. We each tried one and everyone of them had flakes of shell in the oyster. Mine smelled and tasted spoiled. We sent them back and were still charged for them. The chopped salad looked wilted and tasted bland. The tomatoes shared a hue with cantaloupe. The Mahi tacos were the most edible but only because everything else was so bad. I ordered the tomato cucumber salad as a side. I could hardly identify the difference between the cucs and tomatoes. They were doused in what tasted like stale McCormick Oregano that completely over-powered any remaining flavor. This place is not cheaper either. A real disappointment.

I just attended a wedding at The Rusty Rudder in Mt. Pleasant. First off, the outdoor area is so cute how they set up the Tiki Bar and the tables with umbrellas and then cushioned seating, everywhere, it's as if you're at home, just so cozy! Now, I have to break the best news of all. The food is to die for and I told the Chef just exactly that! I had the BEST Shrimp and Grits I've had since moving here 6 years ago. The cornbread? So moist you didn't need butter. I've never had cornbread be so moist! The low country boil was exceptional and so was the CHICKEN!!!!! I can't say enough about how wonderful everything turned out! Y'all are AWESOME!

This restaurant will sorely miss the manager, Tom. Took friends to a "great brunch" 2 weeks ago, and we were disappointed, in comparison to three weeks before. Went last night for Irish special pork belly Reuben. It was almost inedible. Couldn't believe that Tom would allow it to be served. Asked the waiter to speak to Tom and his answer described the sub-par food that we had. No Tom.....no more. He is truly Kiawah's gain

This restaurant won't survive. Just had lunch. Portions are too small for the higher than average prices. Food was tasty but my wife had to eat something when we got home because her $12.95 brunch entrée was about 5 bites of food. Too bad as we were hoping for better.

One of the best brunches I've been to! French Toast and grits are delicious!!! Good service and atmosphere.

With family and friends from florida on vacation. This was are last meal before we went back home . It was the best food we had on this trip by far and everything about this restaurant is nice and clean . The food is out of this world and fresh fruit we will be back .

Went here for lunch with adults and children. The food was good especially the kids menu items and honey siriacha tacos. What was really great was the service. It was a little chilly on the patio and our server brought us blankets and moved a lot of heaters around the table so everyone could stay warm! Very accommodating and friendly. We will be back!

I typically don't try a place with less than 3.5 stars. We decided to try this place yesterday because of the outside decor. It is underrated at 3 stars. Location is great outside and inside comfortable and clean. Food was great had wings and nachos with pulled pork. Service was awesome. We moved here just a few months ago and this could become our new go to place. Cannot wait to sit at outside bar with wife. Only negative if sitting outside there is some unit that is running that is very loud. Whatever it is would be worth for them to move to the other side of the building.

I came here for restaurant week and the first time In months that I can go on a date with my husband. We had our reservations and everything. Get there for our time and they say, "ok well let's find a table". Odd. Sit down, order our drinks and our dinner. It takes 20 minutes to get an appetizer of wings and burnt ends. Those were yummy but the wings were cold. 1 hour into our time, 3 drinks in, and still no entree. We get the meat loaf and the seafood Diablo. The one word to describe it was BLAND. How it takes them 1 hour to practically preheat the food and then give us this, blows my mind. Quote from my husband "Your meatloaf is better." They ask us for a box and we decline. They ask why and we tell them about our experience. They comp is our entree, plus, but then we waited an additional 20 MINUTES to get a dessert that was nothing but stale pound cake and canned peaches. Oh and our waiter said, "Don't come back during a restaurant week and don't come on Friday nights either. " So yeah, never coming back. Thanks for ruining our date night when I could have just made this at home.

The service here is ridiculously bad. We went on a Sunday night and while our appetizers were timely, we waited over an hour and a half for our food just to have it come out luke warm! The food looked terrible and they're already incredibly overpriced. We left after that and went to another local restaurant that said they have people leaving the Rusty Rudder to come there all the time for the same reasons. It's a shame because the outdoor area was nice and I could see it as a great place to get a beer and hang out on the weekends. Unfortunately, I'd never go back.

This was our second time to this place, but it was so good it deserved another good review. It was restaurant week, so my husband chose off of that menu and I chose the 1/2 smoked chicken (the chicken was just OK, but the sides were delicious) From the restaurant week menu we had the firecracker shrimp, the brisket plate ( can't turn down their fries - perfect food) and the fried cheesecake. He had 2 margaritas (kind of weak) and I had their delicious Penfolds Shiraz. Really, we couldn't say a bad thing about the place. And our waitress was the nicest gal! This place will be our go to place when we want a good meal and don't want to second guess our choice!

  • Shaine G.

It was ok. Nothing amazing!!! Not worth the money or the drive. The fish was rubbery and tasteless. The brisket was cold and salty. The portions were small. They have cobbler but not ice cream. Who serves cobbler without ice cream?

This place is the definition of hot and cold. One visit, you get great service. The next, you're not looked at. One visit, the food is delicious. The next, it's unseasoned, or just not good. The ambiance outside is great! The service, again, is bad. The clams are great. Unfortunately, the tuna tartare we had ordered to go with the clams was literally just chopped up tuna. No soy sauce. No onion. No ginger. No sesame seeds. No sesame oil. It was quality tuna, just completely bland, with very little flavor. Oh, and this place isn't cheap. They're easily another 10-15% more expensive than other restaurants in Mount P, and I wouldn't even put them in the top 50th percentile.

I like it for a change up from the other pubs I frequent...a little more spendy but kid friendly and food can sometimes be good. The bad? The service...the service is usually really, really terrible. For the prices, I'd prefer them to step it up a bit.

I was nervous about coming to this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews. I'm glad we took a chance on it as we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Appetizer portions are a healthy size. I recommend the firecracker shrimp, tasty. The seafood platter was a very generous serving of flounder and shrimp fried to perfection, not greasy at all. The Mahi tacos were a generous size as well and had great flavor and my collards were tender and flavorful. The tacos could have used a little more spice, but hot sauce was handy at the table. A bluegrass band was entertaining and the back patio looked like a lot of fun ( next time we might leave the kids at home). Our server and the bartender also did an excellent job in spite of the fact they were very busy.

Ive been for lunch and dinner. The cheeseburgers were very bland and run of the mill. Definitely nothing special. Dinner was so so as well and over priced.

I actually did not have hugely high hopes for this place that has been several restaurants since I have lived in CHS but we decided to give it a shot and it was AMAZING! service was great and the interior decor was understated and nice-great wall art by local artists! Very cool touch! And now to the food. OH MY GOODNESS! We had the lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, and the Mahi. With the pluff mud pie for dessert. I could have sat there and had the same meal all over again as soon as we finished. Amazing and Delicious!!! It was rainy outside so we didn't get to see the back patio but hear that it is really fun an great on live music nights, too. Def worth the drive out!

Great atmosphere for pricey, glorified bar food. There was hardly a healthy option on the menu.

I stayed away due to some early reviews. Pulled in tonight on the way back from a trip, simply because it was the first place we hit. Wasn't into the whole big dinner thing, just a burger and beer. And that's what we had a burger, beer, some shrimp tacos, cole slaw and fries. All edible, only complaint were the fries. Bottom of the bucket pieces, overcooked and tasteless. 4 meals cost us $60. I'll try it for dinner soon.

Great atmosphere on the patio, check it out for brunch or happy hour! Went for lunch, had the sriracha honey shrimp tacos. The salsa was amazing and different, it had a plethora of ingredients to include red peppers, peaches and green tomatoes! I went nuts and ordered the lobster mac n cheese as my side - definitely worth the upgrade, perfectly saucy with chunks of meat.

Just had lunch at the Rusty Rudder. I had the Turkey Burger, which I found unique and very tasty, but my side salad left much to be desired. The cilantro lime vinaigrette was delicious, but the actual lettuce was bagged at best and seemed reinforced with the 'whitish' innards of a head of iceberg (I almost felt bad using the great dressing on it). Husband had the Buffalo Shrimp Burger. He enjoyed his, but doubt the shrimp were local. The place looked fantastic and our bartender was excellent. We will definitely go back to try some of the other food and signature cocktails in the future.

Completely underrated. This place is right down the road from us (Tupelo Plantation) and we have ever had a bad meal here. They smoke their own meats and the taste is amazing in every meal. The outdoor patio in the back plays host to nightly live music, is very big and such a great atmosphere to have a few drinks under the lights. I've had the smoked chicken quesadilla quite a few times and it's great! The clams are something my husband raves about every time he has them, but you really can't go wrong here with anything on the menu....except maybe the nachos. Those need some work, but it still won't deter my 5 stars. This place is a neighborhood gem!

Pleasantly surprising lunch spot! Nice, clean casual atmosphere with a cute outdoor patio area. Recommendations from our server were spot on with the chicken club and flounder sandwich. Both the staff and other diners were all very friendly and outgoing. If looking for a little pick me up... Try the iced java!

Great outdoor bar, bartenders and happy hour prices. Can't remember when I had a beer for $1.50 during happy hour. Love the pork nachos and smoked wings!

Stopped for dinner Tuesday. Food was great and service was very nice. I had shrimp tacos and they were juicy and perfect. Had a special request and it was handled without blinking an eye. Nice local place to have in N Mt.P. Read somewhere last week they won best smoked wing out of several restaurants in town. Bought some to take home for dessert.

My first visit to the Rusty Rudder. Very favorable impression with their inside and outside areas. Pleasant and serviceable. My oysters (order of 6) were very good and well-presented. My brunch entree was a bacon-cheese-egg sandwich. Not bad, but mediocre is maybe the best description. Excellent wait-person, although it took a long time for our brunch items to appear on our table. We were outside, and it was a lovely setting. Very enjoyable. Live music began at 2:00. Because this is a "first visit", I cannot be definitive. It seems like a good place and I look forward to visiting again.

My hubs and I decided to try out The Rusty Rudder ( formerly known as 17N) this afternoon for lunch. As soon as entering the small nondescript building, I was pleasantly surprised to see the place had undergone a total renovation. The area was open and spacious with neutral beige tones and laminated plank flooring. There was a nice outdoor area with bar and plenty of seating available. (Smoking allowed outside). The service was friendly and prompt. The Tomato bisque soup was rich & to die for. I had shrimp taco with sriracha and a side of cole slaw. The shrimp were large and crunchy. I love spicy food so I would tell those who don't to order this delicious hot accompaniment served 'on the side' as it is 5 alarm:) my hubs had the oyster po boy with lobster mac n cheese. He said the oysters were tasty with a light crunchy batter and the lobster Mac n cheese was awesome:) while we dined indoors, staff was setting up for a band playing later that night outside. This restaurant was really good and they did a great job on the renovation. We def recommend it:)

The ambience here is worthy of 5 stars. I love the outdoor space for the kids to run around, and the lawn toys is great to keep them entertained. The live music was great and the "feel" was fun. I got the burger, which was fine. Nothing really stood out for us as delicious. There is a lot to choose from in the kids menu, which is great. My daughter got the fried shrimp, it was the most expensive item on the kids menu, and only came with 4 shrimp, I didn't feel like it was worth the money there. I do think they are trying to improve, and I think we will give it another shot after some kinks are worked out...

My wife and I ate dinner there the other night. The food there is nothing remarkable. It's pretty much your standard Lowcountry fare. We sat indoors. Inside, the overhead lighting in the restaurant was flickering all night. At first it was sort of funny, but then it got super annoying. Our server was terrible. She forgot part of our order and ignored our table for the most. When she brought us our check, she must've known she gave terrible service. She just said "sorry y'all" and rushed off. I gave it an extra star because the outdoor seating area and bar was nice and filled with people having a good time. Will probably go back to sit outdoors and have some cocktails, but we won't be eating dinner there again.

Delightful lunch of wonderfully grilled snapper & an amazing burger. Bartender/waitperson, Tara, couldn't have been more accommodating. Outside is the place to be. Can't wait for fall to enjoy the outdoor fireplace. Not easily accessible, but, proved to be worth the effort.

Did only appetizers and they were great. Smoked oysters Rockefeller were tasty. Tuna tartare was good, but the wonton chips were drizzled with Siracha, and much too overwhelming with the tuna. The wings were smoked & grilled and loved them. The sauteed clams were delicious I will go back for dinner & try it for lunch some time...

Had a solid meal here recently with the family in tow. Ordered the 1/4 smoked chicken and it tasted fantastic! Served up with some fresh snap peas and some rice. Forget what my wife had, but I know she was as happy. My kids ordered off the kid menu, pretty standard. What I liked about it was that there were so many options...menu was huge with lots of options, different fares, both indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of room, kid friendly too, fire pit out back, corn hole games, little tiki-type bar, bunch of TV's. Nice bar inside too, full liquor, and good service. All in all, a solid dining experience, we need more places like this out this way!

Amazing smoked wings! Must try the old bay dry rub. Good selection of craft cocktails. The best shrimp & grits I've ever had. AND, Live music every night. Love this place, I'm definitely coming back.
